A baby dolphin was killed on an Argentinian beach after tourists yanked it out of the water in order to take selfies. According to their testimonies, the animal was caught in shallow waters and was already half dead when some tourists decided to pull him out and take pictures.
Although empathy is one of the qualities that define us as human beings, sometimes we are incapable of seeing past our own selfishness. A recent event, which took place on the Santa Teresita beach, in Argentina, shows exactly how self-centered human beings can be when it comes to helping a creature in need.
During the day, several beachgoers observed a large, dolphin-like creature trapped in shallow waters. Instead of helping him escape Mother Nature’s trap, the tourists decided that the dolphin can become the highlight of their vacation pictures.
So, without even giving it a second thought, the tourist yanked the poor creature out of the water, snapped a few pictures, and invited other people to do the same. Needless to say, that the poor Franciscana baby dolphin died after a couple of minutes due to oxygen deprivation and extreme stress.
In their defense, the beachgoers who pulled the baby dolphin out the water said that the creature was already dead or half dead. However, the authorities believe that this was not the case and that the baby dolphin could have lived if the tourist returned him to the ocean instead of pulling him out of the water.
A tourist who saw the crowd heading towards the baby dolphin declared that the creature was still breathing when the beachgoers took it out of the shallow waters and that they made no efforts in order to try and save its life.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time when the tourist’s obsession for outlandish vacation selfies has claimed the life of a defenseless creature. Last year, two baby dolphins were killed after two beachgoers pulled them out of the water and invited the crowd to take selfies.
Meanwhile, it would seem that dogs and cats are more sympathetic to the suffering of other creatures. Recently, a dog from the United States alerted its owner about a baby dolphin being stranded on the beach.
Instead of taking tons of pictures, the dog’s owner placed the dolphin back in the water and watched it swim back to safety. The owner said that if it weren’t for the dog’s insistent barking, the poor marine creature would have probably died on the beach.
