On Thursday, Yoselyn Ortega, a Dominican Republic resident, will appear before a New York court to answer for the slaying of two children in 2013. Although various court documents suggest that the killer nanny has a long history of mental issues, the prosecutors want to demonstrate that the woman could be held accountable for her crimes.
Killer Nanny Tried to Slash Her Own Throat After Stabbing the Children
According to the court documents, Yoselyn Ortega, who has been employed by the Krim family back in 2009 to care for their children, Leo Krim, aged 2, Lucia Krim, aged 6, and another young girl. The Krims never suspected that the kind 55-year-old nanny would be capable of committing such an atrocity, nor can they figure out what reason she could have for wanting to harm their children.
On the 25th of October 2012, while Mrs. Krim was away from home with the couple’s youngest child, Yoselyn Ortega took Leo and Lucia into the bathroom and repeatedly stabbed them with a knife she previously retrieved from the kitchen.
Realizing what she’s done, the killer nanny attempted to take her own life by slashing her throat. The macabre discovery was made by Mrs. Krim, who knew something might be terribly wrong after she found all the lights switched off.
The authorities rushed Ortega to the hospital where the doctors managed to save her despite losing a significant amount of blood.
During the trial, the defense will try to point out that the event which occurred more than five years ago is the inevitable result of untreated mental illness. Throughout her employment at the Krims, the killer nanny was seeing a psychologist.
The specialist, who was called upon to testify in court, declared that the woman was displeased with the salary she received from the Krims.
