Kurtis Blow, the famous pioneer rapper, was saved by several officers from LAPD after suffering a debilitating heart attack in front of a mall located in Woodland Hills.
Blow, also known as Kurtis Walker, may have lost his life if three police officers from the LAPD have not intervened. Calvin Hill, Pete Parra, and Chris Verge were the three officers on duty that day.
According to their statements, the local police department responded to a call made by a citizen who said that a robbery might be underway in the mall in Woodland Hills. Upon arriving on the scene, the three officers realized that there was no robbery underway, but a heated argument between Kurtis Blow and his son.
As the officers approached to question the two individuals, Kurtis Blow collapsed and lost consciousness. The officers rushed to offer first aid to the 57-year old rapper. Christ Verge, one of the officers on site, declared that after the rapper collapsed he tried to stabilize him by holding his head and by making sure that his airways are open.
I would also seem that before the paramedics arrived to rush Kurtis Blow to the hospital, the rappers heart stopped multiple times, prompting the officers to perform CPR on the distressed patient.
According to their testimonies, the officers managed to revive the rapper after more than five minutes. Of course, this simple gesture could not go unnoticed. In fact, after the rapper was stabilized at the hospital, he made a few press statements praising the three police officers who saved his life.
Although the officers said that they don’t deserve any special recognition since they were only doing their job, Kurtis Blow felt the need to emphasize that three Caucasian police officers saved an African-American’s life and that this needs to be heard given the “age” we’re living in, as he put it.
In addition, it would seem that the heart attack that threatened the rapper’s life stemmed from the argument had with his 20-years old son. The call that saved Blow’s life was made by a security guard at the Woodland Hills Mall who was afraid that the two individuals were about to stage robbery.
After the doctors stabilized him, the rapper also insisted on meeting his saviors and to thank them for their gesture. Right now, according to his attending physicians, Blow’s condition is stable and soon he will be ready to leave the hospital.
