Pinellas County Animal Services managed to save the life of a Maltese-mix dog whose owners decided to dye her hair violet. According to the shelter, the dog was in a terrible condition, and the vets didn’t expect it to survive the night. Three months after the incident, the pup is fit as a fiddle and spoiled by its new owners.
Maltese Dog Had Swollen Eyes and Severe Chemical Burns
Violet’s story begins with the Pinellas County Animal Services bringing her to the vet’s office and was shared countless times on Facebook. The Maltese dog was brought in by the Animal Services after its previous owners dyed the poor dog’s hair with violet dye.
In a Facebook post, one of the vets who tended to Violet declared that on the night when she was brought in, she and her colleagues were astounded by the fact that she managed to make it the night. The pup’s eyes were swollen, and she had severe chemical burns on her skin.
The vet also said that Violet was limp and had difficulties sitting. Despite her condition, the doctors were not about to give up. So, they’ve washed her a couple of times to get the dye out of her coat, shaved her, and gave her antibiotics, IV fluids, and pain meds.
In a couple of weeks, the Maltese-mix dogs showed signs of improvement. One of the Pinellas County Animal services representatives recalls hearing a low whimpering which, in time, became a loud bark. After a while, Violet began strolling the office, asking for treats and pats.
Although in very bad shape when she was brought in and all the odds against her, Violet managed to make a complete recovery. More than that, the Animal Services found her new home, with a lovable family.
