Several analyses from researchers suggest that methane gas emissions are significantly responsible for the acceleration of global warming. Most of the emissions come from the fuel industry and are considerably high. Researchers point out that the level of methane gas in the atmosphere is double than what they expected.
A new study from specialists proves that methane gas emissions reached a high level. They were surprised to find out that the fossil fuel industry causes more than sixty percent of gas emissions than initially thought.
Specialists explain that methane is one of the main pollutant gasses that can be released into the atmosphere. The most dangerous is carbon dioxide, followed by methane. However, if compared to carbon dioxide, methane doesn’t last long in the air. This means that its impact on the atmosphere is quick and only equally quick action against it can work to remove it.
The regulations of the Paris Agreement come into effect starting November. They require that gas emissions should be curbed in order to prevent global temperature from rising further. There are specialists who consider the possibility of the United States not being able to accomplish the given task.
Scientists find that the fossil fuel industry is responsible for methane gas emissions. However, they also wonder if any solution can come from the industry too. One of the most obvious ways to address the problem is switching to eco-friendly methods, such as electric cars.
On the other hand, gas and oil industries are also aware of the impact of their activities on the environment. This is why they decided to cut the methane gas emissions gradually as much as possible. According to another study, there was registered a considerable decline in methane gas emissions in the last thirty years. However, the situation hasn’t improved much, as further action must still be taken.
Specialists suggest that climate change became a financial problem. Any modification in the countries’ industry can affect the economy. Nevertheless, proper solutions must be put into effect, and they should benefit both the environment and the financial stability of states.
Another research from climate experts points out that there is another source of methane gas emissions. Apart from the industry, water reservoirs are also to blame for releasing pollutant gasses. It seems like 1.3 percent of the methane emissions originate from the modern technology of reservoirs.
Researchers state that identifying all sources and finding an adequate solution for each of them will help them reduce the methane gas emissions massively.
