A mother from Michigan believes that, based on her own conviction regarding vaccines, she has the right to choose if her son should get vaccinated or not. However, the court has a different opinion. A Detroit judge decided to offer her a one-week period to vaccine her child and, if she refuses to do so, she will be put in jail.
The woman refuses to get her son vaccinated
Rebecca Bredow has one of those controversial opinions regarding vaccination. She believes this might affect her child, so she decided not to allow her 9-year-old son to get vaccinated. However, the school requires the child to get all the necessary shots and urges everybody do so, regardless of their personal conviction.
This issue attracted the court, who decided the woman should get her son vaccinated in a week. If this period comes to an end and she hasn’t complied with the orders, then the woman risks being thrown behind bars. However, Bredow stands strong.
She declared she would rather go to jail than agree to something that’s contrary to her beliefs. This is all about her son’s safety, as she fears he might experience unpleasant symptoms or illnesses if he gets him vaccinated. Therefore, she stands for her right to reject vaccination.
The boy’s father does not share the mother’s opinion
The state of Michigan allows its citizens to apply for some sort of permit, which allows them to object to vaccination on a religious and ideological basis. This permit is called a waiver, and Bredow decided to apply for one as well. However, she and her ex-husband got caught in this legal issue, as the man wants the boy to get vaccinated.
The woman is extremely disappointed and angry. She thinks this battle is a violation of her parental rights and refuses to agree with the father. Bredow still stands against vaccines, even if health experts keep assuring parents there’s nothing they should worry about.
