Warning: Game of Thrones spoilers ahead!
Game of Thrones enthusiasts have a week at their disposal to dissect the season seven premiere and give sway to their favorite pastime of building theories with the new materials at hand. However, Sansa’s destiny is already visible to them, and there are way too many signs to prove it. There were numerous obvious and hidden hints such as hairstyles that indicate that Sansa might become the next Cersei of the Seven Kingdoms. The question that remains is whether she can stay on the good side or not.
Sansa and Cersei Share Many Similar Life Experiences and Strategies
In the last season premiere of the most popular TV show in the history of television, two Stark relatives are reunited. Not only that, but they hold a seat at the leaders’ table. The exchange of bold arguments between Sansa and Jon Snow when they debated internal matters was a spectacle in itself.
However, the audience gained access to an intimate conversation between the two of them away from the prying eyes of others. While the King in the North was preoccupied with the winter’s threats, the Lady of Winterfell warned him about his omission of other dangers. This is the moment when Sansa opens the Cersei topic.
“If you’re her enemy, she’ll never stop until she’s destroyed you.”
Jon doesn’t fail to perceive a brilliance of admiration in Sansa’s words and eyes. However, there were more than words that highlighted Cersei’s influence in this young girl. Even though the present queen of the Seven Kingdoms was the torturer of Stark’s cousin, the show revealed that Sansa is not out of danger, even though she escaped King’s Landing.
One hidden clue is Sansa’s new hairstyle that looks so similar to Cersei’s favorite hairdo before her walk of shame. Given the show’s obsession with such details, this choice of design might not be a coincidence after all.
Sansa Still Has a Chance to Take Better Decisions and Remain on the Good Side
Secondly, the season starts with both Cersei and Stark girl relying on men they don’t want for support. The queen summons Greyjoy to lay hold of his Iron fleet even at the expense of an undesired marriage. At the same time, Sansa is keeping Littlefinger close to her, even though she despises him.
Nonetheless, George R. R. Martin’s universe treated both Sansa and Cersei badly. They both ended up with cruel husbands even though they dreamt of an ideal prince. In the end, both of them had their men killed by beasts: a boar and starving hounds. On the other hand, Sansa still has a chance to use her ugly past experiences and cunning skills to do the right thing and remain on the good side, unlike Cersei.
