Unfortunately, we will have to be the bearers of bad news this time. Instead of coming to you with a detailed Scalebound gameplay review, we have to tell you that Microsoft has canceled the much-anticipated title.
Initially slated for launch in 2017, Scalebound, which was meant to be the perfect combination between gorgeous graphics, immersive story, and RPG-style gameplay, was canceled. Microsoft, the game’s developer, and distributor made the announcement via a press release.
Thought this document, the company conveyed its sincere apologies to all gamers who expected Scalebound and said that the reason behind this decision is because they want to focus on more lucrative business ventures.
The company said that although the decision of canceling Scalebound’s production was not an easy one, it is nevertheless final. However, Microsoft said that the gamers would be absolutely delighted by the upcoming titles such as State of Decay 2, Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, and Sea of Thieves.
As for Scalebound, it would seem that its long history began in 2006 when the idea of what was to bear the name of Scalebound later first appeared. However, the developers started working in 2017, using all this time to focus on other Wii U classics such as Bayonetta 2 and The Wonderful 101.
Chronologically speaking, the game first made its stage appearance during 2014’s E3. Scalebound also appeared in cameos during 2016’s E3 and Gamescom 2015. Of course, the game was set to be released in early 2016, but the company decided to postpone it.
Hideki Kamiya, Scalebound’s game designer, revealed very little about the upcoming game. In a press interview, the designer was asked to point out a few of the game’s plot highlights. Instead, Kamiya declared that the team was currently trying to figure a way to create a cinematic trailer for the game and that he has no idea how the story begins and ends.
If the game were to be released, it should have told the story of Drew, a battle-hardened warrior, and his dragon companion, Thuban. It may sound like the plot of any game from the Divinity franchise, but Scalebound’s destiny was to be something unique.
Using a blend of magic, steampunk tech gadgets, and medieval weaponry, he would take part in brutal battles as he explored the vast realm of Draconis – the land of otherworldly creatures and cyber-augmented dragons.
