Jerry Seinfeld managed to score another huge success after “Seinfeld” with “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.” Thanks to his unique charisma and an income of $69 million, he was crowned this year as the king of comedians. On top of that, Amy Schumer was among the five highest paid comedians for the second time in a row. She is also the only woman to make it to this list.
Netflix and Special Contracts Were the Two Decisive Agents that Shaped the List of Highest Paid Comedians
Last year, Jerry Seinfeld lost the first spot and became a runner-up in the list with the highest paid comedians in the world. However, thanks to Netflix streaming service and his eight-figure paycheck, the star with coffee in cars managed to pull it through this year and land that top spot.
The new list that Forbes released makes it obvious that there is a new unicorn in the industry. Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and Jerry Seinfeld are the only ones who received $20 million per special contracts. Chris Rock signed two such documents while Chappelle landed three yet received remuneration for just two of them. Despite the fact that Jerry was paid only for one out of two specials, he still managed to reach number one.
The Forbes report is based on information coming from independent studies and Pollstar. The final numbers concern pre-tax income from June 1, 2016, to June 1, 2017. As a consequence, the numbers might also contain extra fees for agents, managers, and lawyers.
Forbes also regards Netflix as a stepping stone for the industry of comedy. The organization suggested that more than half of Louis C.K.’s income of $52 million came from the American entertainment company. On top of that, Amy Schumer has also enriched her fortune by 30% thanks to Netflix. This turn of events secured her the fifth spot in the list of top earning comedians.
