According to the London authorities, a 4-year-old boy managed to save the life of his mother by using Siri, iPhone’s intelligent virtual assistant. While the woman was lying unconsciously on the floor, the boy used her mother’s thumb to unlock her iPhone and told Siri to call the emergency line. Thirteen minutes later, the ambulance arrived and rushed the woman to the hospital. The authorities refused to offer any details as to the nature of the woman’s medical emergency.
On Wednesday, the London Metropolitan Police received a call from a 4-year-old child who said that his mother collapsed on the floor. The boy started the phone call by saying that he is Roman. Believing that this might be a prank call, the emergency operator asked the boy to go and fetch his mother. To which Roman replied that he could not do that because she is dead.
Alarmed, the 999 operator asked the boy to offer some more details about his mother’s condition. Roman said that the woman is currently lying on the floor with her eyes closed and that she stopped breathing.
After finding out about the woman’s state, the operator asked Roman to tell him his home address. Without even flinching, the boy recited the address. According to the authorities, it would appear that the distress call originated in the Kenley district.
The 999 operator told Roman to remain calm, as an ambulance was on its way. Meanwhile, he asked the 4-year-old child to hold the line and to follow his instructions. He first told Roman to shake his mother firmly and to call her out loud. On the recording released by the London Metropolitan Police, you can hear Roman calling his mother, before telling the emergency operator that she was still unresponsive
Thirteen minutes later, an ambulance arrived at the boy’s house and rushed the woman to the hospital. The authorities refused to release any relevant information about the woman’s medical condition, but it appears that the woman was discharged from the hospital a few days later.
When asked about how he managed to call the authorities, Roman said that as soon as he saw his mother lying on the floor, he took her iPhone and used her thumb to unlock the mobile device. He then told Siri to call the emergency line.
Using this opportunity, the authorities reminded all parents of how important it is to teach their children what do in case of an emergency.
