The super lens was designed and created by Garth Webb who works for Ocumetics.
The new bionic lens improves the vision up to three times better than 20/20.
According to its creator, the lens can also fix various conditions that require different treatments in order to be corrected, conditions like far and near sightedness, astigmatism and cataracts.
On the official site of Ocumetics it says that the bionic lens has to be implanted into the eye, but the procedure doesn’t take longer than 8 minutes.
The implant operation is very similar to that of treating cataract, which means that it involves the removal of the lens inside the eye and replacing it with the artificial lens.
The scientists described the procedure as being painless and it doesn’t require anesthesia; after the painless procedure, the patient can go home without having to spend the night at the hospital for recovery.
According to its creators, the bionic lens can be placed in the patient’s eye using a syringe filled with a saline solution.
After the lens is put on the eye, it takes about ten seconds for it to adjust because it initially folds like a tattoo for implant.
Right after the lens has been placed it immediately improves the eyesight of the patient.
Webb explained that the lens implant makes images look sharper and the focus can be shifted instantly.
According to Webb, the bionic lens was not only created for providing perfect vision to patients, it can also help protect the natural lens from damaging.
Ocumetics said in an official statement that the company is very excited to announce the development of the most advanced intraocular contact lenses in the world.
The bionic lens can restore the patient’s quality of vision, no matter the distances and can very well replace glasses, contact lenses or even surgical procedures like corneal refraction.
The optometrist who invented the bionic lens said that people will not have to worry about the time when they would need glasses because the lens can help prevent that.
Also, Webb said that those who get the bionic lens implanted can prevent conditions like cataracts because the eyes’ natural lenses, which tend to deteriorate, will be replaced with the artificial lens.
Ocumetics said the new bionic lens will be available by 2017.
