A new study suggests that people who have Type 1 diabetes can improve their life quality with the help of regular exercises. Their task is not difficult, as they only have to perform simple and easy aerobic exercises. However, there are significant advantages, as the health experts state.
The new research is not large, but its conclusions are significant. Six patients who have Type 1 diabetes helped the researchers with their study. The trials lasted for three months. All that the participants had to do was perform simple aerobic exercises on a daily basis.
The specialists in charged of the study noted the improvements with the patients. Over the period of the trials, the patients didn’t use as much insulin as they used to. They also had an improved level of sugar in their blood.
The results from people who worked out every day were compared to that of other patients with type 1 diabetes who didn’t perform such activities. The researchers observed that there was an improvement in the medical analyses of the six people who were engaged in physical activities.
The researchers concluded that regular exercises could help people who have type 1 diabetes to control the disease. If combined with the insulin treatment, physical exercises are highly effective for patients, improving their life quality.
Specialist Livio Luzi is one of the authors of the new study. He stated that regular exercise and a healthy diet could help type 1 diabetes patients control the disease and lower the amount of insulin they use.
Health experts explain that type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition. It is common in children, but young adults too. It is a quite rare type of the disease, as only five percent of the people who have diabetes have to deal with this particular form.
Type 1 diabetes patients depend on the insulin shots. The disease affects the level of glucose in the human organism, which means that the body doesn’t produce enough insulin. The patients are administered the right doses of the substance through shots.
Doctors inform us that people can live happy, long lives despite the disease. Type 1 diabetes can be controlled with the help of insulin, diet, and regular exercise, as the new study shows. The researchers are aware of the fact that they must lead further investigations into the matter. So additional studies on the benefits of physical activity for type 1 diabetes patients will be carried out.
The results of the small study were published in Cell Transplantation.
