On Saturday morning, a Walmart store from Florida became a horror scene, after a customer shot and killed a 19-year-old male who was trying to steal several boxes of baby diapers. According to individuals who witnessed the event, the Walmart client discharged his weapon at least eight times before the subject could flee and seek refuge in a nearby gas station.
According to Captain Angelo Nieves of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, one man was fatally shot during an incident which took place on Saturday morning, at a Walmart in Florida. The events leading to the death of the 19-year-old adolescent began in the store’s parking lot.
Assisted by three or four accomplices, the teenager was trying to load several boxes of stolen baby diapers in a pick-up truck. The individuals were seen trying to leave with the stolen merchandise by a Walmart employee, who went to confront them.
Nieves declared that a Walmart customer saw the store’s employee trying to reason with the robbers, and went to the pick-up truck in order to render assistance. However, at one point during their conversation, the man felt threatened by the 19-year-old teenager. During his police interview, the man declared that the teenager became offensive and tried to get a gun out of his pocket.
The Walmart customer quickly took out his gun and opened fire on the teenager. After the Walmart customer shot the teenager, allegedly in self-defense, his accomplices jumped in the pickup truck and managed to escape.
Although the customer said that he was acting in self-defense when opening fire on the teen, an eyewitness said that the man must have discharged his gun at least eight times. The teenager managed to get up and seek refuge inside a gas station. However, due to the severity of his injuries, he collapsed on the floor.
He was taken to the hospital by an emergency response team but was later declared dead. As for the other suspects, Captain Nieves declared that as they attempted to escape the parking lot, the suspects crashed the car, got out of the vehicle, and escaped on foot.
Orange County Sheriff’s Department said that the vehicle used to load the stolen diapers was reported stolen on the 14th of January. Presently, the Sheriff’s Office refuses to release the names of the teenager killed in the Walmart parking lot and of the customer who shot him.
