A Zionville man was recently taken into custody and charged with animal abuse after brutalizing the family’s 4-month-old puppy. The individual allegedly beat the pup, breaking one of its legs and several ribs.
Puppy Spent Several Day with Broken Jaw and Ribs after Zionville Man Attack
According to a Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson, the traumatized 4-months-old puppy was discovered after the authorities received a call regarding a possible domestic abuse case on N. Kenyon Street.
The suspect was 24-year-old Lemontrae Bible who, according to the caller, was heard screaming at someone in the house. Upon arriving at Bible’s department, the Metropolitan police officer discovered a 4-month-old puppy in critical condition.
Holly Brand, Bible’s girlfriend, told the authorities that abuse began shortly after she bought the puppy for her daughter. The pup had an accident inside the house and Bible considered that the only way to disciple a disobedient animal was beating it to a pulp.
The puppy was taken to The Every Dog Counts animal shelter, where she received medical care. Her story was posted on the shelter’s Facebook page.
According to the post, the 4-month-old pup named Halsey was brought in a critical condition having multiple broken ribs, a fractured jaw, and a broken leg. Due to her condition, the pup was unable to feed itself, and the vets were forced to tube-feed her.
On Thursday, the dog underwent surgery. According to Dr. Johnny Cross of the VCA Advanced Veterinary Care, Halsey’s leg was broken in half and that she’s been in this condition for at least a couple of days before the humane society picked her up.
Even more troubling is that this wasn’t the first time the puppy was brutally beaten by the 24-year-old Zionville man. To pay for Halsey’s vet bills, the human society has set up a donation page.
