Capcom has officially confirmed Street Fighter 6 after years of rumors, which will undoubtedly be welcomed news among the fighting franchise’s fanbase.
Although the Street Fighter 6 release date remains unknown, the game’s debut trailer did a lot to pique our interest in the series’ first entry to premiere on next-gen systems. Additionally, the game’s logo has been a source of discussion.
While details are few, Capcom has stated that further information about Street Fighter 6 will be released this summer, so there is something to look forward to.
While we await such information, continue reading to learn everything there is to know about Street Fighter 6.
Street Fighter 6 Release Date
The sources indicate that the game’s code name is CAPCOM 6 – which makes sense. Additionally, it has been stated that the game has been tested, although we are unlikely to hear anything for some time.
After it was established that the Capcom Cup 2020 champion would not automatically qualify for the 2021 competition, many expected the game to arrive in 2021. Capcom leaker Dusk Golem partially refuted this.
Subsequent tweets showed that Capcom’s executive director, Midori Yuasa, had assumed leadership of the project, producer Yoshinori Ono.
IGN has confirmed the leaks, stating that Street Fighter 6 is scheduled to release in Q3 2022, followed by a Super Street Fighter 6 version in Q4 2023. Finally, it appears as though an Ultra Street Fighter 6 version will be available in Q4 2024. While IGN notes that sources have confirmed the game is in production, this chronology may be inaccurate.

Street Fighter 6 Gameplay
We don’t know much about the gameplays now, but that will change this summer. However, we will highlight two critical bits of information.
First, the reports we previously discussed from sites such as AestheticGamer indicated that the title was delayed to make certain adjustments to the gameplay.
There was a lot of emphasis on a team play concept, which was supposedly inspired by the tag-team systems found in games like Marvel vs. Capcom, but testers hated it. Tag teams may reappear in some way.
Second, last year, one of Street Fighter 5’s final patches included a new feature dubbed V-Shift.
It was a defensive back dash that players might employ to evade an assault and briefly delay their opponent, allowing the player to counterattack or evade a throw, all at the expense of one V-Gauge. It has considerable tournament potential, and Capcom will likely introduce it to SF6 in some form.
Street Fighter 6 Storyline
Street Fighter 6 appears to be following up where the last game left off. The clip features Ryu, a franchise staple, vs. a mixed martial artist named Luke, who was only recently introduced to Street Fighter 5’s roster.
The Street Fighter franchise has a richer backstory than casual observers may believe. It will be intriguing to see how this game fits into the brand’s timeline and overarching plot.
