According to a recent announcement, the South-Korean electronics company LG is set to partner up with GameFly for a a video game streaming service which will offer high-quality video games to people using web-OS powered Smart TVs.
The streaming will be available through a dedicated GameFly application, which will be released in the United States in April. Through this partnership, LG Smart TV owners will have the opportunity to access premium console games. This will be available, however, only for the LG OLED and LCD/OLED TVs supporting the webOS.
The announcement was made by David VanderWaal, who is vicepresident of marketing at LG Electronics USA. He states that adding this application to the already extensive content options available for its LG Smart TV owners will enhance the user experience, giving them the possibility to stream quality video games directly on their TVs and to benefit from a console-like experience from their own homes.
The GameFly Streaming App will be compatible with 2016 Smart TVs which have webOS 3.0 and with 2015 Smart TVs with webOS 2.0. Game addicts will be able to access this application through a software update set to land sometime in April.
Once users have installed this app, they will no longer have to purchase and install consoles connecting to their TVs. According to GameFly representatives, this service will give users the opportunity to play high-quality games at a cheaper price than they would’ve normally done.
Apparently, whoever wants to access the app will have to pay a monthly fee, after which they can get various streaming packs which contain several popular games grouped together.
Some of the games that can be accessed through these packs are Tomb Raider: Game of the Year Edition, Red Faction Armageddon, Darksiders, Batman: Arkham Origins and F.E.A.R. 3.
For controlling the streaming games, GameFly advises people to use Logitech F710, Logitech F310 or an Xbox wired equipment.
The monthly fee for accessing this service has not been disclosed yet, but we expect it to be announced in April, when the application will be released.
GameFly is a popular online game rental subscription service, which offers users games specially designed for game consoles and handheld game consoles.
It works on a similar business model to Netflix and Blockbuster online, sending games to its subscribers on a monthly fee basis.
