How many times have you heard friends, teachers, nutritionists and advertisements saying “regular exercise will save your life”? Now a recent research led by doctors assures you that this is a hundred percent true. Regular exercise doesn’t only maintain your health, but actually prevents you from developing cancer, diabetes, and other terrible diseases.
The new research was led by scientist Hmwe Kyu (University of Washington), and it consisted of analyzing previous studies, dating back from 1980, up to the present. The expert’s team looked up 174 such studies in order to obtain concrete results.
The most important conclusion is that regular exercise not only improves your life quality, but also lowers the risk of diseases with high mortality rate. The researchers provide us with a list of five such diseases: two types of cancer (breast and colon cancer), heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
If you haven’t been convinced by now by the benefits of performing physical activity daily or weekly, you can see it for yourself . Hmwe Kyu talks about the importance of regular exercise being part of your life since you have many reasons to be satisfied with it:
“With population aging, and an increasing number of cardiovascular and diabetes deaths since 1990, greater attention and investments in interventions to promote physical activity in the general public is required.”
The team of experts also comments on the things they still have to investigate:
“We still do not definitively know how much the type and quantity of physical activity reduces the risk of common conditions.”
Professor Philippe Autier (International Prevention Research Institute, Lyon) gave his opinion on the study:
“This study represents an advance in the handling of disparate data on a lifestyle factor that has considerable importance for the prevention of chronic diseases.”
It is quite easy to introduce physical exercises in your daily routine: consider walking or cycling for half an hour, taking the stairs instead of elevators. Even doing the chores can be classified as exercising: cleaning the house, vacuuming, gardening do not only make your household look nice and shiny, but also improve your health status. These are some great advantages you can’t possibly ignore!
Deadly diseases are not something you want to neglect. If you are not a sportive person, but you decide to take up regular exercise, you might actually find that you enjoy the activity. It’s a win-win situation for you: being engaged in a pleasant activity which helps you fight against deadly diseases.
