It seems like Blue Bell is confused. The company recalled the Rocky Road ice cream shipments from Brenham because they carried a different flavor, Cookies n’Cream. It appears that it contains some possibly dangerous allergens such as wheat and soy.
Apparently no one suffered any allergy yet, but the US Food and Drug Administration already know about the issue. People who are allergic to this type of soy and wheat are exposed to serious health risks if they eat the ice cream. Blue Bell announced that they found out about the confusion only when one of their employees noticed it during his shift. Even if the recalled products are of Rocky Road, they carry Cookies n’Cream. The code of the products (022918576) can be seen on the pint’s bottom.
Blue Bell stopped their production in Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas after the dangerous ice cream was linked to 10 listeria cases. Is still Blue Bell confused? It seems that last year a listeria problem was associated with some deaths and diseases. Moreover, after closing the plants, Blue Bell promised they would repair and thoroughly clean them.
According to Jennifer Larino, a large listeria break occurred in 2015 after another packaging mistake with the wrong flavor and the company had to recall everything. Presently, the company said they are doing the same thing because the Rocky Road shipments might contain the Cookies n’Cream flavor. The undeclared allergens wheat and soy seem to be the cause and not the flavor itself. Still, people are advised to avoid eating it as these allergens are possibly even life-threatening especially for consumers who are allergic.
As there is no illness reported yet, the company stated clearly that on the bottom of the pint can be found the code: 022918576. Consumers are advised to avoid Rocky Road mark because it is Cookies n’Cream.
From now on the Blue Bell will have to be more cautious and certainly avoid any mistakes in the future. It is still not known when the production will start again in Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma. Everyone, especially the company, hopes that no one will suffer again from this mistake, and that every consumer finds out in time about it. Unfortunately, if Blue Bell continues to be confused then the consumers will be more than confused.
